Dramatic Large Gem Set Vintage Cross Pendant, c 1981.
Cross Pendant set with fine diamonds and gemstones. Seemingly at random in a juxtaposition, thirty eight white diamonds, colored diamonds and colored stones are prong set in no particular order in this 18 carat white gold cross. Just as there is strength emanating from the diversity within Christianity, so too this colorful potpourri seems to attract attention because facetted stones and cabochons; rounds, ovals, marquises, pears and baguettes; emeralds, rubies, sapphires and diamonds are all set in a controlled explosion of profuse colors, shapes and sizes.
This large cross is 2.5/8 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide. There are 8 natural blue sapphires that amount to approximately 6.15 cts. A dozen natural bright rubies, possibly from Burma as evident of their color, weighing an estimated 4.75 cts. there is but a single emerald, likely Colombian which weighs an estimated 0.32 cts. Nine white diamonds amounting to a weight estimated to be 1.33 cts., near colorless G/H, and slightly included. 8 fancy colored diamonds weighing approximately 1.16 cts. The total carat weight of all the diamonds and colored stones is approximately slightly less than 14 carats, with our estimate to be 13.71 cts.
Marked with initials of the maker, which is difficult to read; and dated 1981, this unusual vintage cross is well made with fine stones and in fine condition. Photographed on a chain which is not included in the price.
Please note our model is a medium to large size.
