Art Deco platinum, diamond and Burma ruby double clip/hair barrette, c. 1920.
Art Deco platinum, diamond and Burma ruby double clip/hair barrette, c. 1920. This is a striking Art Deco statement possessing very fine and unusual fancy cut diamonds and natural unheated Burma rubies This piece can be worn either as a brooch or as a hair barrette.
The diamonds are extremely rare and visually exciting to encounter. In the trade these are known as French cut diamonds. They are colorless to near colorless (F/G), and very very slightly included to very slightly included (VVS-VS). The estimated diamond weight is 9.5 cts.
The natural unheated Burma rubies are a vivid red color, they are estimated to weigh 3.74 cts.
The design of this geometric brooch is superb and contains unusually fine materials set with the highest of craftsmanship; and, visually presents itself as striking and vibrantly vivid.
This clip was made so that it could be worn on fabric or in the hair as a barrette. The double stems in the back are slightly curved so that they can both slide through fabric smoothly, and comfortable and easy to wear in the hair. The clip is also slightly curved so that it will hold any thickness of hair or fabric. The two pinstems squeeze together and each fit into its own holder making the barrettes quite comfortable.
