Art Deco "Tutti-Frutti" Platinum, Diamond, Ruby and Sapphire Bracelet, c. 1922. SOLD
SOLD Art Deco, c. 1922, "Tutti-Frutti" platinum, diamond, ruby and sapphire bracelet. Not to be confused with the many mass produced reproductions offered today, this authentic period Tutti-Frutti bracelet is made well, in excellent condition and early 20th century. This strap bracelet bears the decidedly American stamp, "irrid Plat", on the underside of the fold-over latch clasp, for platinum. This bracelet has a length of 7.25 inches exactly and a width of that varies from .50 inches to 5/8th inches. The piece weighs 45.13 grams with a delicate safely chain, a likely later addition
There are both baguette cut diamonds and older European cut diamonds. In total there are 129 diamonds. All are near colorless, H, and very slightly included (VS). The estimated diamond weight is 6.86 cts.
In addition the 3 cabochon natural, unheated, blue sapphires are estimated to weigh 11.4 cts. These stones match well and are a deep velvety blue. The bright red carved rubies are likely Burma, no heat. All hand carved in a leaf motif, these 24 stones are estimated to weigh 9.8 cts.
Pierre/Famille notes from the conservator of the collection:
Considering all of the diamonds, sapphires and rubies, there are 28.06 cts. in this lively, dynamic composition which became an icon of the Art Deco period, thought by numerous connoisseurs of the history of 20th century jewels to have been unequalled in inventiveness before or since. Tutti-Frutti strap bracelets that are actually from the period, as opposed to 18K white gold reproductions, are exceedingly rare and sought after in the marketplace. Ours, with its obeisance to the then western efforts to modernized jewels from Indian royalty, circa 1920, is especially attractive because of its abundance of diamonds punctuated by carved natural Burma colored stone Tutti-Frutti conventions.
