Red Tourmaline weighing 38.5 cts., accented with diamonds in Platinum, c. 1950
This vintage ring centers a natural rubellite (red tourmaline) weighing an estimated 38.5 cts., and measuring 20.8 mm. by 16.85 mm by 12.75 mm. In terms of inches, this emerald cut stone measures about 13/16 inches (a bit more than three quarters of an inch), in length and about 11/16th inches in width. Set in platinum, this well made ring, probably made by Oscar Heyman, has 20 graduated baguettes and 12 graduated round diamonds for a total diamond weight of .80 cts. These diamonds are all G/H (near colorless), and VS (very slightly included), or better respectively.
A 5 digit number is stamped inside the shank. the ring is now a large size 7 and can be sized.
The center stone is a deep raspberry red with electric flashes of carmine and fuchsia.
Rubellites of this size and red color are very unusual in the market today.
