Antique Natural Pearl and Diamond Ring by Dreicer & Co.
Edwardian diamond and natural salt water pearl ring by Dreicer & Co. With all the exoticism of a ruling Caliph, this silky and blemish free natural salt water pearl presets an Edwardian edition of a silhouette as important and regal as that of any Ottoman Sultan. Set in platinum with 24 full cut, graduated and small European cut fine white diamonds, this pearl can only be described as a minor masterpiece measuring 8.57 mm wide and 7.5 mm tall. The pearl is a rare and unusual shape, no doubt why Dreicer & Co. had chosen it for the center of this beautiful ring. The hand made ring is signed on the interior of the shank. The platinum ring in fine condition is a size 5.75 and can easily be resized.
Because, in the early 1900's America's wealthier upper crust still looked to Europe for aesthetic leadership and style, Dreicer & Co. focused upon natural pearls as being indicative of the highest standard in European fashion. Many credit them with a surge in pearl demand in the early 1900's that economically surpassed the role played by diamonds in High Jewelry and in 1911 - well before the vaunted Cartier - it was Dreicer that sold the most expensive pearl necklace for the unfathomable price of $1,000,000.
