Edwardian Antique Platinum and Diamond Ring, C. 1910
Antique Edwardian platinum and diamond ring. This remarkable platinum and diamond ring centering a 3.33 ct. cushion brilliant diamond K/L color and VVS in clarity, and surrounded by 44 old European cut diamonds estimated to weigh 1.95 cts. Totally, there are 5.31 cts of diamonds. This ring in fine condition is a size 7 and can be resized.
This ring - aesthetically Edwardian and almost certainly American was executed very close to 1910, but in so many ways it goes beyond the Edwardian, repetitive patterns of solids and voids, the woven and braided design, the garlands, knots and bows that would have been expected, possibly required. Instead it prefigures the next great 20th century style with its mixture of angles and geometric shapes.
Seen in this light it is a sophisticated and even prescient in its correct anticipation of Art Deco design.
