Antique Georgian Memorial Ring, c. 1780
SOLD Georgian memorial ring. This is an historically important American 18K gold enameled and miniature painted (under rock crystal) mourning ring of a vessel commemorating "John Bailey Sr., May 1780 Etud. 64".
This ring was made by John Bailey for his mother on the death of his father. Bayley was from Fishkill, New York across the river from Washington's encampment at Newburg. Bayley is known to have made a sword for Washington in 1775.
This ring is overall in fine condition with some loss to the black enamel as shown in the detailed photographs. The top of the ring measures nearly 5/8th of an inch and the width nearly 1/2 inch.
