Antique Renaissance period natural Spinel, diamond and enamel ring.
Antique Renaissance period natural Spinel, diamond and enamel ring. In very good condition, this impressive 16th century ring tests to be more than 18K gold (probably 20k), it centers an oval bright red natural Spinel (measuring 8.3 by 6.7 mm), in a closed back setting with an approximate weight of 1.0 ct., accenting this center stone (which under 10x magnification shows some abrasion on the table facet) are approximately 1 ct. of old Holland cut rose rut diamonds set in silver and also backed - which was the typical way to set stones at this time. On the back is ornate patterned polychromatic enamel which continues in the gold ornate scroll design along the shank. This ring is a size 5.6 and can be sized. This delicate piece probably made in Europe circa 1600.
