Large Well Carved Coral Happy Devil with Emerald Eyes on a Coral Gold Necklace.
Large carved three dimensional natural bright deep orange coral of a devilish spirit as mischievous as he is malevolent. This well executed piece from his energetic emerald eyes to his curly winding beard, he is the embodiment of a nemesis, but in point of fact, and quite ironic, coral has always thought to ward off the evil eye. Maybe that is why this puzzling spirit has a spark of happiness to his visage. This interesting coral pendant is circa 1930 and measures approximately 1.75 inches across, 2.5 inches in length and 7/8th inches deep. It is held with 7 long 14K prongs and backed with a 14K frame, has very high relief and is suspended from a long coral and gold necklace.
The coral necklace is 33 inches long with a 22k clasp and 14k rondels (these elements have been acid tested to confirm their gold purity). The barrel shaped coral, which is slightly irregular in shape, measures approximately from 9.5 mm. up to 11.2 mm. across. The coral, which is slightly lighter in color than the pendant, and gold necklace was probably made at an earlier time. The two pieces compliment each other, but they are not a matching set.
On the verso it is marked 14K with indistinct initials probably those of the artist. The pendant has a large bale allowing it to be removed from the coral necklace. We have shown the piece also on a gold chain to show the different ways to wear the pendant. This gold chain is not included in the sale. This vintage necklace and pendant are in fine condition.

We have also photographed our pieces on different colors and different body types to provide our viewers with abundant information that we hope will permit them to make their best decision. If questions arise that we have not addressed here, please contact us and we shall respond.
Unless stated otherwise, or stated exactly; all weights and grades are approximated by our Gemologist using both GIA Instruments as well as instruments used as a standard and accepted practice within our trade. All purities involving metals - gold, silver, platinum, palladium are approximated within 1%. This allows for the legal tolerance in the jewelry industry. For example, 14K usually indicates a purity of 58.3% gold. However, manufacturing jewelers can legally label a piece as 14K as long as it is above 13K, or 54.2%.
