Antique Garnet Pendant/Brooch, c. 1860
Antique, American Civil War era, yellow gold pendant/brooch with stylized leaf motifs that appear to open up revealing at the center a cluster of natural vivid pink/red Almandine garnets. Both round and oval cut, these stones are set in classic mid-nineteenth century prongs. Suspending from the top portion is a hanging matching piece also with the foliage motif and matching garnets. Totally, there are 11 round and oval garnets all original and all well matched. The pendant/brooch is all original, including the early 'c' type clasp.
