Art Deco Diamond & Ruby Earclips with Ruby elements that can be removed, French.
ON HOLD Art Deco diamond and ruby earclips in which the ruby section can be removed so that only the diamonds are worn. These earrings are French, c. 1930. There are 58 diamonds estimated to weigh 2.20 cts. These European cut diamonds are approximately near colorless (I/J) and very slightly included (VS). There are 16 natural rubies, likely from Burma and unheated, with an estimated weight of 2.10 cts,
These earrings which depict a knotted fabric accented with crimson, show masterful if not clever execution as the ruby portion of each earring clips on or off so that they may be worn as smaller all diamond on the ear accents or larger bicolor accents.
The earrings are 18K, which is not unusual for French pieces made at this time as platinum was difficult to obtain. The earrings measure .75 inches in length and width, and weigh 12.6 grams.
They are now for a non pierced ear but could be altered to accommodate a pierced ear. The French control mark is on each earrings back as well as a cartouche of unknown origin.
Please note our model is a medium to large size.
