18K, Amethyst, Diamond and Emerald Vintage well made Large Brooch, circa 1950
Vintage 18K brooch of a bird on a realistic gold branch gazing down at a very large piece of fruit! The fruit is a fine large amethyst. This amethyst displays a fine rich violet purple color. The oval stone is held by double prongs. The estimated weight of this natural amethyst is 50 cts. The 23 bright green emeralds which compose the bird's body are estimated to weigh .70 cts. The brilliant cut diamonds are all near colorless (H/I) and very slightly included. They have an estimated weight of .75 cts. The bird's eye is a natural round ruby, it has an estimated weight of .05 cts. The black, yellow and gold enamel is in good condition. The diamonds in the leaves on the branch are set in silver topped gold.
This large and realistic yet whimsical brooch, made circa 1950, measures 3 inches across. The piece has been acid tested to confirm its gold content as being 18K (750). The pinstem is 14K (.585). 14K was probably used for stabilization. The brooch weighs 34.9 grams.
