Blue Star Sapphire, unheated, weighing 15 cts and Diamond Ring, GIA, Circa 1950.
Star sapphire, unheated, weighing an estimated 15 cts, this stone is accompanied by a GIA grading report stating this natural sapphire unheated, is is large and impressive displaying a medium blue/violet color. Accenting this center stone are 36 white brilliant cut diamonds, well matched in their cut, color and clarity, near colorless and very slightly included, (H/VS1). The total estimated diamonds weight is 1.70 cts.
This vintage platinum ring is well made with an unusual fan like design on the shank leading up to the center stone. The ring is a size 7 and can be resized.
Star sapphires overall will have an opalescence or velvety luster. The star in the center radiating out to the ends of the stone is caused by very small needle shaped inclusions called an asterism.
When the light reflects off these tiny inclusions, one sees the star effect. We have shown this stone at different light levels. All stars are best seen in sunlight.
Today, a preponderance of jewelry is machine made in large factories around the world with abundant and obvious suspicions as to its enduring qualities using not only inferior stones, but also man made stones and treated stones utilizing artificial substances. Alternatively, this distinctive vintage platinum ring possesses a large and fine natural blue sapphire.
