Antique Amethyst and Diamond Ring, c. 1880.
Antique cameo and diamond ring, circa 1885. Large, bold and unusual, the natural amethyst, held by 16 prongs, weighs approximately 65 cts., and displays a fine bright purple color. The carving of a classic early Greek or Roman woman with headdress is done quite well as evident of the fine contouring of her face and hair. The carving is in excellent condition with no damage. This cameo - with high relief - is surrounded by 32 old Mine/European and early Swiss cut diamonds. These diamonds are all estimated to be slightly included and near colorless, I/J in color. The estimated diamond weight is 2.75 cts. The ring is bears no marks (which is not usual for this time period). It has been acid tested and is 18K gold.
This ring is extremely unusual and a fine work of art.
The ring is a size 6.75 and can be resized. The top of the ring measures approximately 1.75 inches in length and slightly more than 1.25 inches across, (23.27 mm. by 17.5 mm.)
Please note our model has a medium to large hand size.
