Fine Turquoise Bead Torsade Bracelet Centering an 18K High Relief Clasp, c. 1965
Fine turquoise and 18K yellow gold torsade style bracelet made circa 1965. This 16 strand torsade bracelet can be twisted so that its length will be somewhere between 6.5 inches up to 8- 1/8th. Each of the 16 strands of fine blue turquoise range in size from 1.35 mm to 3.85 mm. Moreover, if all 16 strands were re-strung as one strand, that strand would be 112 inches or about 9 feet long.
The color of the turquoise beads in this highly decorative bracelet averages somewhere between Persian and Sleeping Beauty material and the modest variations discernable represents a nice abrash or slight shift from these two colors.
The 2 inch wide 18K yellow gold clasp, which serves as the centerpiece is very decorative with an organic motif which with the connected beads has a gross weight of 77.9 grams, almost exactly 50 dwts or 2.5 troy ounces. This central gold element is very sculpted, displaying fine hand engraving and etching, surrounded by highly polished leaves as accents. Its high relief gives the piece a three dimensional quality.
On the verso the two well made clasps fold up or down for ease when taking off or putting on.
