18th Century 18K Memorial Ring Centering Two Hearts & Surround by Garnets, American
decorated, under rock crystal, with two joined hearts under a crown and above crossed sprays of wheat on a white background. This was done in rudimentary or handmade fashion and painted with a handmade brush on white enamel . Along the shank engraved in black enamel is the name John Moore OB (died) 4 Nov. 1775 AET 53 (at the age of 53). He died 6 months after the start of the American Revolution.
This is a love motif possibly a very personal remembrance with expectations of a future meeting under god's supervision.
The faceted garnets are all a very early cut set in an early style of prong/bezel. This ring is in fine condition. The central memorial motif is crisp and without damage. There are maker's initials (possibly E.P.) on the interior of the shank. Tested to be 18K
This ring is a size 7. It can be made smaller with an interior spring. It cannot be sized larger because of the enamel.
Our hand model is a medium to large size.
