Antique Enamel and Rose Cut Diamond 18K, Cupid Motif, Ring, European, c. 1830.
Antique - from the early 19th century - this is a finely executed, portrait enamel and rose cut diamond ring. Cupid is pointing his arrow at the onlooker ready to strike and declare love. Usually we see this charming motif with cupid holding his arrow at his side, or pointing it off in a different direction, but never straight on to the observer. This ring was made in European and imported into France - as evident of the French import mark. The top of the ring has a length of just under one inch.
Relative to its age, it's condition can only be called, unimpeachable, superb! It has none of the scratches one usually sees in well worn pieces; the enamel scene (which has retained its polychromatic color has not faded with time) is surrounded by numerous old rose cut diamonds and set in 18K yellow gold. The enamel is signed by the artist A. P. -an enamel artesian with a well established following. The ring is a size 6.5 and can be resized.
